Water Tower 3D is the sequel to Water Tower. It was entered in the uDevGames 2004 contest held by iDevGames. The idea was to simply take my 2-dimensional game from last year and expand it into 3 dimensions.
There were obviously a number of issues to work out. I had to make sure the gameplay remained intact through the transition. The camera in 3D games is often a source of great frustration to the player. I had no modeling skills at the time. I didn't know how I would be able to handle the physics. My primary goal during the contest has never been winning it; I enter it learn and to push my skills to a new level. I chose this project with that in mind, knowing that I would likely not complete it by the deadline.
Water Tower 3D is still a work-in-progress. The version posted here is only a pale reflection of my original vision of the game. Here are some of the improvements I'm working on:
In uDevGames 2004, entries were rated in six categories: Gameplay, Graphics, Audio, Story, Originality, and Polish. Out of 31 game entries, Water Tower 3D scored 9th in Gameplay, 12th in Graphics, 23rd in Audio, 9th in Originality, 15th in Story, and 18th in Polish. It ranked 19th overall. My scores could have been much higher if I'd had more time to finish the game as I'd intended to.
