Infiltration was a collaborative project with another programmer, Will P., for the 21 Days Later contest held by iDevGames in spring 2004. The theme of the contest was vector graphics. No bitmap images or filled shapes were permitted. Developers were give a only three weeks to complete their entries. Through tireless effort and a few sleepless nights, Will and I were somehow able to put together Infiltration by the deadline.
Infiltration is a 3-dimensional space game. The player pilots their ship through a series of tunnels and passageways, shooting down enemy robots along the way. Five levels of gameplay were completed for the contest.
The game was originally going to have an overarching story. In it, the player was battling an army of robots, fighting their way through to the mainframe, to destroy it and save mankind. Cliché, of course, but how much can you do in 3 weeks? There was also going to be a boss at the end of each level. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, these features had to be dropped. The short timeframe shows in other parts of the game, too; I ended up building all of the levels on the final morning of the contest, after having been up all night!
When the contest results came in, Infiltration ranked 4th out of 12 games. Will and I were both quite satisfied with this ranking; this was, after all, a very large project for a three-week contest. Two people teamed up to do what individually would have been impossible. This was my first experience working with another programmer. It was quite enjoyable, and I hope to do it again someday.
