Sacred SoftwareGlider PRO is a game for the Macintosh, developed by John Calhoun and published by Casady & Greene in 1994. In it, you fly a paper airplane (a Glider) through a House, collecting powerups, bonuses, and Magic Stars, and avoiding balloons, furniture, the floor, and various other obstacles. Altogether, a simple, fun, puzzle/arcade game.
The feature that has kept the game popular over the years is the built-in House Editor. It allows players to build Houses of their own; laying out the Rooms, placing obstacles and bonuses, and even inserting custom art and sound.
When the first few Glider games came out, there was only one House, and no way to create your own. Later came Glider 4.0, which introduced an external utility that allowed players to create their own Houses. The game and editor were both fairly limited, so house building didn't really catch on at that time. Then came Glider PRO, with its beautiful environments, imrpoved game mechanics, powerful built-in House editor, 2-player mode, and many other features. Hundreds (thousands?) of Glider PRO Houses have been built and distributed over the Internet. The popularity has died down a good bit, but the game still has a small cult following. A Mac OS X native version was even released.
In 2003, Casady & Greene closed their doors, and the rights to the Glider game have reverted to John Calhoun, the author. He now offers the games free of charge from his website.
